A trend more common among western countries, the concept of an second floor gathering space was very popular back in history among the Italians, where gatherings were held on the second floor for safety and sanitary reasons. Another purpose for it would be as a retiring room for mothers who are nursing children or for an afternoon rest.

In modern times, a second floor living room is generally located near the bedrooms and have sofas, televisions, kid’s toys and even kitchenettes.
